I’m Andy Jones, a bestselling author and award-winning filmmaker and broadcaster.
Some say I have a way with words. For over a decade now, I’ve been putting that skill to good use.
I’m based in Reading, Berkshire, in England and have been for most of my life. I know the lay of the land here, and have a great many local customers. But I can and do work with people from all around the world. The beauty of copywriting is that you can hire me regardless of where you live and I’ll deliver your work on time and within budget. Every time.
I’ve been up to my ears in the media world for the entirety of my working life. From graduating with a first-class honours degree in 2002, I’ve been writing (and presenting) for television and radio ever since. I’ve spent most of my time as an on-air broadcaster. But as anyone in commercial radio will tell you, just ‘being able to present on the radio’ and ‘having a good voice’ doesn’t guarantee you a job for long. You need to have multiple skills and assets to be of value to a radio station. And so as my career in radio blossomed, I started to involve myself deeper and deeper into the areas of internet copywriting, advert scripts, and the writing of promotional and editorial content.
As a copywriter, I can still remember when it first dawned on me: I’m good at this.
It was a long while ago now. I was given the task of writing a promotional e-newsletter by the radio station I was working for. It was my first ever e-newsletter. As you may already know, traditionally, those letters get a response-rate of between 1.5%-5%. My first ever one got a response-rate of nearly 20% – more than 10 times the industry average. And I’m beating those numbers daily.
It was becoming clear that I was wasting my copywriting abilities on just one company. So I started working as a freelancer for a variety of other clients too. Whether it was e-newsletters, content for websites, scripts, brochures or other commercial copy, I was doing it. The rest, as the cliche goes, is history.
Whether you communicate with your customers on your website, through social media, e-newsletters or through the traditional route of brochures and mail-shots, one of the first points of contact involve a potential customer READING about you. And that’s where I come in.
I love to write. The blank white screen with the blinking cursor is the stuff of nightmares for many people. But for me, it’s where I find my greatest comfort.
